The greater Central Valley, California area.

Old houses in Modesto, California, have their own personality and stubbornness when trying to effectively and efficiently heat and cool an older home.

Old houses in Modesto, California, and the surrounding Central Valley, have their own personality and sometimes there is a stubbornness when trying to effectively and efficiently heat and cool an older home.  There are substantial differences between and older house and more modern homes.  Preserving the character of your older home and improving the efficiency of your older home can be realized.

Cooling strategies support heating strategies

Many older homes do not have the modern duct work system which forces warm or cool air throughout the house, and many of older houses that may have some duct work were built before central air conditioning became commonplace.

There are several energy-efficient options available to use to cool and heat older homes here in the Central Valley.

Ductless HVAC Systems

Ductless HVAC systems are becoming more popular throughout the world as an efficient and effective system to efficiently heat and cool a home without gas-force air furnace or other older solutions.  An interior air handling unit is connected to an external heating pump to release the treated air into the rooms.  Oftentimes, multiple interior components are supported by one exterior component, which are connected by discrete piping and wiring.

Each room typically has one component, often mounted near the ceiling or near the floor.  Each component is controlled via remote.  As technology moves forward, there are some systems that allow you to remotely monitor and control each room.  One distinct advantage of this system is that each room can be programmed to a specified temperature of the occupant.

High Velocity Systems

Many older homes do not have duct work, or the space to install duct work.  A solution for an older home that does not have duct work, nor the space to adequately install duct work are high velocity systems.  The high velocity uses a similar strategy of ducts in the home, but utilizes small tubing to distribute the warm and cool air throughout the house.  These systems can be distributed throughout the house utilizing the attic or spaces in between walls and floors.

Is there one, best solution?

Unfortunately, there isn’t one solution that works every time.  Each older house has its “personality” which adds to the uniqueness of the home.

Mehl Mechanical, an authorized Coleman furnace and air conditioner dealer and repair, will review and recommend the best solution for your older home.  Sometimes the biggest improvement does not require a complete overhaul.
